ARE YOU AFRAID TO GO TO HOSPITAL?

Wednesday May 14,2008

Jo Willey

PATIENTS believe one in eight doctors in NHS hospitals do not wash their hands between treating people, a survey reveals.

And hospitals are dirtier than ever, according to those being treated.

The number of patients reporting that their hospital was “very clean” fell from 56 per cent in 2002 to 53 per cent in 2007 and has not improved since last year.

Fewer than half of patients said the toilets and bathrooms were “very clean”, with the worst performing trusts seeing just 22 per cent saying they met their cleanliness standards.

Last month a survey of NHS staff found that only 61 per cent said handwashing equipment was always available when they needed it.

Are YOU afraid to go to hospital?

Do YOU think hospitals are dirtier than ever?
