BRIDGE PLUNGE WOMAN KILLED BY LORRY

Monday May 21,2007

A woman died after plunging from a motorway bridge into the path of a truck in the early hours of Monday morning.

The woman, said to be in her 40s and from Northampton, was hit by a goods vehicle a mile south of junction 16 on the southbound M1 just before 2am, police said.

A force spokesman said inquiries were continuing into what exactly happened but could give no more details.

Sources said witnesses had seen the woman jump from a road bridge over the motorway.

Her K-registration Vauxhall Cavalier car was found parked on the bridge at Bugbrooke Road, Kislingbury, directly above the spot on the M1 where she was killed.

The lorry driver, a man from Retford, Nottinghamshire, was not thought to have been injured.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have seen the Vauxhall Cavalier in the early hours of Monday.
