BLAIR NOT QUITTING AS MP - NO.10

Thursday May 3,2007

Downing Street has denied speculation that Tony Blair is planning to stand down as an MP as soon as he quits as Prime Minister.

Mr Blair is set to announce next Thursday that he will resign as Prime Minister, triggering a 48-day process to elect his successor, expected to be Gordon Brown.

Sources told the Press Association that Mr Blair is expected to travel to Trimdon Labour Club in his Sedgefield constituency the next day - May 11 - to give further details about his future to local party activists.

There was speculation that he has told friends he has decided to leave the Commons as soon as possible, sparking an early by-election.

But his official spokesman said: "That is wrong. The only announcement he will make next week is about his future as party leader."

Mr Blair's agent in Sedgefield, John Burton, said he knew nothing about any plans for Mr Blair to stand down immediately as an MP and thought it unlikely that he would.

He told Sky News: "I think we'd all be disappointed. We've come to know him, to love him, to cherish him and we would like him to stay on for as long as possible."

Mr Blair has never said publicly when he will stand down as MP for Sedgefield, which he has represented since 1983.

But he has made clear that he wants to do something completely different when he leaves politics.

There have been a number of reports in recent months speculating that Mr Blair will stand down as an MP before the next general election or sooner.

HIS WORK IS DONE

03.05.07, 10:06am

Why would such a man want to hang around? To help those who have voted him in to parliament for the last 26 years? You must be joking! Such a propect would horrify the Dear Leader.

Oh no, there are those who would happily pay $50,000 a time for a ticket to hear him spout his elite, global, anti-people wickedness on the east coast of America. Oh yes, the multinational corporation owners, the international financiers and the USA's military-industrial complex will be queueing round the block to kiss Tony B Liar's Mephistophelian ring.

Margaret Thatcher created great suffering in this country and sowed the seeds for even more. The greatest traitor in all British history instutionalised and extended that suffering.

And the Labour Party, a party that was founded to protect the poor from such as him, stood and watched and did nothing as he did it.

What our ancestors must think of what we have become does not bear thinking about. They worked so hard, sacrificed so much and died the deaths in all the wars so that we could have a fair crack of the whip.

And we give it all away in less than thirty years.

As for the greatest traitor himself, his work is done. You can be sure that THEY will reward him well for having done it.
