Hull KR's Papua New Guinea international Makali Aizue has signed a new contract for 2009 - but Rovers have released Jon Steel, Kirk Netherton and Luke Menzies.

The 30-year-old Aizue, who is the club's longest-serving player, will be at Craven Park for a seventh season after the Rugby Football League relaxed their rules on overseas players.

Aizue, who joined the Robins in 2003, said: "I feel at home at this club. I am so grateful to the RFL for giving me special dispensation."

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan added: "Makka is a genuine player that plays with immense passion and desire."

Aizue's fellow countryman Stanley Gene is also expected to stay on at Craven Park after the relaxation of the federation-trained player regulations.

Meanwhile, Rovers are this week expected to announce the signings of Wigan winger Liam Colbon, who will be a straight replacement for Steel, and St Helens prop Nick Fozzard.

Steel, 28, who is in the Scotland squad for the World Cup, has spent the last three seasons with Rovers after making the switch from rugby union.

"It's always difficult to part with players that have served you well over the years, but sometimes you need to evolve and move on," said Morgan.

"Jon will be a great player for whoever he signs for and I don't think he'll have a problem finding a new club."
