KEANE: Ambition

Tuesday May 1,2007

By Niall Hickman

SUNDERLAND boss Roy Keane has vowed to take the Premiership by storm next season after being told he has a £30million-plus budget to turn the North-east side into contenders.

He secured promotion for Sunderland on Sunday, just nine months after taking over at the Stadium of Light.
And he says talk of merely surviving in the Premiership is nonsense.

Keane, whose team could still win the Championship title on Sunday if leaders Birmingham slip up at Preston, said: “I’m not going up with the mind-set of thinking we’ve had a great season if we finish fourth from bottom in the Premiership.

I’ve heard managers say that many times and you won’t be hearing that from me.

“One of the reasons for taking the job was the potential, but the potential is there at a lot of clubs.

“The players have picked up on the fact I’m only interested in winning. Nothing else matters to me.

“We’re not going up to the Premiership hoping to struggle. I need to strengthen the squad because I don’t kid myself that we could do well with the squad we’ve got.

“It’s a different challenge next year but one I’m relishing.”

What a clear way to get a simply obvious message over & sell season tickets.
