UK NEWSLAND-GRABBING RUSSIANS ‘ARE THE NEW NAZIS’Wednesday August 27,2008 By Will Stewart in Moscow and Cyril DixonRUSSIA was last night accused of acting like Nazi Germany by “annexing” the breakaway Georgian territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Britain led widespread international condemnation after the former communist superpower formally acknowledged the regions as independent states. [>
Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the move “inflames an already tense situation”, warning that Georgia’s boundaries could not be simply redrawn by Moscow. [>
Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili said: “It is the first attempt in Europe, since Nazi Germany and Stalin, of a big country to annex the territory of another country.” [>
[> But in a chilling statement of his nation’s determination, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said he was “not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War”. [>
The tension grew after President Medvedev announced he had signed a decree granting the two breakaway states official recognition. US president George Bush had begged Moscow to “meet its commitments” by refusing to acknowledge the “separatist regions.” [>
As the diplomatic crisis escalated, Russian troops remained deep within Georgian territory, despite promises of a withdrawal. The Kremlin’s action appeared to confirm that the world was on the brink of returning to the Cold War for the first time since the fall of communism 17 years ago. [>
Announcing that his government regarded South Ossetia and Abkhazia as sovereign states, President Medvedev claimed it was a move for peace. [>
“This is not an easy choice but this is the only chance to save people’s lives,” he said. [>
In a further challenge, he warned: “We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War.” [>
Both houses of the Russian parliament had voted unanimously to support the recognition, but their decisions were not binding on the president. [>
Mr Miliband said: “We fully support Georgia’s independence and territorial integrity, which cannot be changed by decree from Moscow.” He added: “Today’s announcement by President Medvedev is unjustifiable and unacceptable. [>
“It will also not work. It is contrary to the principles of the peace agreement, which Russia recently agreed, and to recent Russian statements. [>
“It takes no account of the views of the hundreds of thousands of Georgians and others who have been forced to abandon their homes in the two territories.” [>
Mr Miliband said he would be visiting Ukraine tomorrow to assemble the “widest possible coalition against Russian aggression”. [>
Russia’s posturing is likely to weaken Georgia, a western ally and a major route for energy supplies to Europe. [>
Moscow sent tanks and troops over its neighbour’s borders earlier this month in a five-day war, which it claimed was justified to deal with a military threat. [>
A Foreign Office spokesman added to Mr Miliband’s statement by “categorically rejecting” Russian’s recognition of the regions. [>
“This is contrary to the obligations Russia has repeatedly taken on in UN security council resolutions,” he said. “It does nothing to improve the prospects of peace in the Caucasus.” [>
US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice called the move “regrettable”, and German chancellor Angela Merkel said it was “absolutely unacceptable”. [>
EU leaders are due to meet in Brussels next week to discuss their response. [>

I THINK THE HAVE DUG A HOLE FOR THEMSELVES

I don't mean Russia, I mean America and the rest of the west. Talking tough and threatening Russia has come to a standstill. What now? The Russians are still in Georgia, dug in. Its as if the Russians are thumbing their noses at the west. The west cannot back down as it will lose credibility big time. North Korea has made moves already by stopping the decomisioning of its nuclear programme. Who is going to be next? It seems there is only one anenue to go down, military action, to save face. To back away will be a show of weakness. The politicans have not thought this crisis through before reacting, they have just gone in head first without thinking about how the end game would turn out. Millerband wants to keep his schoolboy mouth shut!

Very little difference between what the West did to Serbia over Kosov and what the Russians are doing now in Georgia. Complete double standards by the West

WELL SAID BEEFSANDWICH, WE SHOULD GET OUR OWN HOUSEFULL OF FOUL DEEDS IN ORDER BEFORE WE START CRITCIZING OTHERS
27.08.08, 11:24am
Britain is in a mess and we have made a great many serious mistakes and should not be disparaging others untill we are prepared to take an honest look at what we are guilty of ourselves.
The cover-ups of what we get up to have not been swallowed.
It is time for having the courage to look the truth and facts in the face, like a courageous and honest nation should.
This is the only way things can ever change for the better.
The Russian Secret Services, for instance are not worse than ours as we are led to believe, for instance, whilst ours pretend to be whiter than the driven snow and there is no point pretending we don't know this.
It's time for Britian to open it's eyes and to open it's consciences and fix things at home before attacking others in other lands in my opinion.
Honesty and the Courage to face it, should be very high on the agenda.
