DUNLOP BRAGGING RIGHTS GO TO HARRY THE ROOKIE

John Dunlop

Tuesday May 1,2007

By Rolf Johnson

The Dunlop family made history at Wolverhampton yesterday.

Father John and sons Ed and Harry all sent out runners in the maiden fillies’ stakes and, deservedly perhaps since he was the only one attending, Harry saddled the winner, Pentasilea.

The youngest member of the Dunlop clan, in only his first full season as a trainer, was celebrating his third victory.
He said: “This was Pentasilea’s first run for me. Ed has already texted his salutations; I’m sure Dad’s will arrive soon.”

Dunlop trains out of Windsor House in  Lambourn, a ‘lucky yard’ formerly occupied by Nicky Henderson and Peter Walwyn.

There have been few more lucky winners than Chain at Towcester yesterday.

One of the fancied runners pulled out before the Beginners’ Chase and by halfway 28-1 outsider Chain was tailed off behind the other three.

But at the fourth from home Witness Run fell and at the next Cantgeton was on the floor.

That left Carthys Cross and Dominic Elsworth to come home at their leisure. Unfortunately, Carthys Cross refused at the second last allowing Chain and Tom Siddall to trundle into the lead.

Elsworth eventually hauled Carthys Cross over the fence, and the last, but just failed to catch Chain up the final hill.

Siddall joked, “I always had them covered”, while winning trainer Owen Brennan said, “That’s my luckiest winner in 40 years.”
