Monday August 25,2008

A police officer has appeared in court with three teenagers charged with attempted murder.

Sergeant David Beattie, 46, was arrested by colleagues from his own force in Glasgow in connection with an alleged disturbance.

A 30-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken to the city's Southern General Hospital in a serious condition following the alleged incident.

Sgt Beattie, his 19-year-old son Callum Beattie, Jonathon McKenna, 18, and Mark Williams, 17, were each charged with attempted murder.

They made no plea or declaration when they appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The four were committed for further examination and were granted bail.

The disturbance happened in Blairdardie Road, Knightswood, around 8.40pm on August 18.

The police officer was injured following the incident.

He and his son, who was also reportedly injured in the incident, were treated at hospital before being discharged.
