KEANE AND BRUCE ON UP

Roy Keane has steered Sunderland from the brink of oblivion into the top flight, while Steve Bruce has become only the fourth manager to return a club straight back to the Premiership.

Chairman Niall Quinn, who appointed Keane just 10 months ago when Sunderland were bottom of the Championship, said: “This is terrific because everyone played a part, none more so than Roy. It shows you what can be done if you work as a team.”

“It’s a great performance,” said Birmingham chairman David Gold. “We’ve been vindicated for refusing to panic and for keeping faith in Steve.”
