CLATTENBURG SUSPENDED

Mark Clattenburg has been suspended

MARK Clattenburg, one of the Premier League’s most promising young referees, has been backed to make a swift return after being suspended pending a probe into his business affairs.

Clattenburg, 33, was pulled out of Sunday’s FA Community Shield clash between Manchester United and Portsmouth after it was alleged he owes £60,000 from a failed venture. Peter Walton officiates at Wembley instead.

However a spokesman for the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd said: “It is in the best interests of Mark Clattenburg and the game that these reports are fully investigated.”
