SFA SECURE BUMPER £60M TELE DEAL WITH MORE ON THE WAY

New TV deal with SFA

SFA chief executive Gordon Smith announced a record-breaking £60 million television deal and then confirmed they were closing in on a new sponsor for the Scottish Cup.

The deal, which will run until 2014, will see Sky Television cover all Scotland’s home internationals and nine Scottish Cup ties, while the BBC will show a highlights of the international games and five cup games.

Smith also confirmed they had already knocked back an offer for the Scottish Cup and were still in talks with other major companies over taking over the competition sponsorship - which was self-financed by the SFA last season.

Smith said: “We are delighted with the deal when there are so many problems with the economy.  We are virtually doubling our money from the current broadcasting deal for the SFA is tremendous.

“We are delighted the current broadcasters, Sky and the BBC,we have been working with wanted to take things on.

“It has been a continuation of our improved form as a national team.  

“The money is being invested at the grass roots of the game.  This money can help to enhance or improve the initiatives we have.”

Smith revealed they were in talks with possible new sponsors for the Scottish Cup.

Last season the SFA paid out more than £1 million to cover the prize monies last season.

Smith admitted they are still in talks with several interested parties but companies like Scottish Power are reluctant to finalise things because of market forces.

Smith added: “The Scottish Cup is part of this new broadcasting deal and it's very much of interest to the broadcasters - they have increased the number of games they are taking on. 

“The Scottish Cup is a product which is wanted by sponsors but we are not going to sell it cheaply
