FAMILY: Sir Sean Connery with son Jason

SIR Sean Connery has joined the ranks of wealthy Scots who have refused to financially support their children in the hope that they will succeed by their own efforts.

The Bond star’s only son Jason will not get a penny of his estimated £85million fortune, according to former wife Diane Cilento.

Billionaire Sir Tom Hunter has said he expects his children to make their way in the world without his help, and Duncan Banna-tyne, of the TV series Dragons’ Den, recently announced plans to give away much of his £310million fortune rather than leave it to his six children.

Cilento, married to Connery for 11 years before their divorce in 1973, says that Connery and Jason, now an actor and film director, had a rocky relationship.

It’s not known if Sir Sean’s refusal to help his son out app-lies only to his lifetime, or whether he will leave him money in his will. At one stage, Jason threatened to change his surname following accusations that he was cashing in on his father’s fame.

According to Cilento, Sir Sean said: “You only got this acting job because your name’s Connery.”
