The 62-year-old was guest of honour at the launch of ZeroRH+ glasses at Harvey Nichols in London this week but reporters were told he would not be prepared to discuss football, politics or his personal life, leaving little to talk about.

The tight-lipped Italian, still mastering the local lingo, did however muster up some complimentary words about his new home.

“Every city is different but in London you find everything – London is the centre of the world,” he told Day & Night.

“In England it’s a very different life to Italy. London is a very cosmopolitan city. There are some very nice Italian restaurants here – San Lorenzo and Santini’s are two of my favourites. The owner of Santini’s is a very good friend of mine.

“There are some very good shops in London but everything costs a lot!”
