Fifties inspired swimwear is all the rage this summer

Thursday July 10,2008

By Claire Brayford

I AM hitting the beach in Greece in August but I had a baby recently and am conscious about my caesarean scar.

Are there any swimsuits or bikinis you could suggest that are not too revealing?

Jane, 35, London

A Swimwear has taken a retro turn this season so anyone who wants to be on-trend should remember that covering up is key.

Think Fifties’ style one-pieces or bow-trimmed, high-waisted bikinis – they look infinitely more chic than a string bikini.

First on your must-have list is Noa Noa’s beautifully nostalgic swimwear. I love the belted bathing suits with low-cut legs, £32, and matching turbans, £14 (01225 428843).

Toast’s swimwear is also excellent for coverage, particularly the sizzling scarlet tankini top, £40, with skirted shorts, £42, and the polka-dot halter swimsuit, £65 (0844 557 5200), which has by far the most flattering neckline.

If you feel like splashing out, Pistol Panties has some cute, unique styles. The Betty bikini, with its high-waist briefs and halter-top in aqua, is eye-catching, £155, as is the golf-print tankini with a flattering bustier top and frill briefs, £168 (020 7229 5286).

If this is too expensive, look at The White Company, which has a blue and white stripe tankini, £25, and briefs, £20, to sunbathe in serious style (0870 900 9555).

I am getting married and want to wear my hair up. I am looking for pretty but reasonably priced hair accessories. So far, I am having no joy. Please help.

Preshhus has lovely crystal hair combs and clips which are very affordable: they start from just £5 (www.preshhus.com).

Also, have a look at www.ayedo.co.uk which has a good selection of floral, pearl and crystal hairpins and combs that look adorable dotted around a soft, swept-up style – they start from £9.99 for three.

FASHION FOOTNOTE
I have never enjoyed buying jeans until I found Trilogy denim boutique. It has opened a new branch on London’s Marylebone high street but also has an excellent online store. You can browse all the most-wanted denim brands, including Paige and J Brand, and there is a great sale on at the moment so log on now (www.trilogystores.co.uk).
