By Paul Jeeves

THE troubled nephew of football legend Kevin Keegan has been found dead from a suspected drugs overdose.

The body of reclusive Craig Keegan, 27, was found in a hotel room in the soccer superstar’s home town.

Shocked staff opened his locked room and discovered his body three days after he checked into the Metro Inns motel in Doncaster, South Yorks., close to where his famous uncle was born and brought up.

An inquest on Monday heard that Craig Keegan was a chronic agoraphobic, suffering from a terrifying fear of open spaces.

Prior to booking the hotel room he hadn’t gone outside his house in Edenthorpe, Doncaster, for five months.

The bachelor, who had been employed at one stage as an office clerk, used the internet to book the hotel room, the inquest was told.

Craig’s father Michael revealed he had last seen his son alive about three weeks before his death.

Doncaster deputy coroner Fred Curtis said he was still awaiting a report on the cause of death and the results of toxicology tests.

Michael is the younger brother of the former England captain and manager who is now in his second stint in charge of Premiership giants Newcastle United.

Kevin Keegan, 57, remains close to his family and is a frequent visitor to the town. He was unavailable for comment. The inquest was adjourned to a later date.
