Corporal Sarah Bryant: Killed by roadside bomb

Tuesday June 24,2008

By Tom Morgan

THE body of the first British servicewoman killed in Afghanistan arrived home yesterday.

Corporal Sarah Bryant, 26, died with three colleagues when their patrol was hit by a roadside bomb in Helmand Province last Tuesday.

Hundreds paid their respects as her body was flown into RAF Lyneham, Wiltshire, along with those of Corporal Sean Reeve, 28, Lance Corporal Richard Larkin, 39, and Paul Stout, 31.

Members of the victims’ families watched as the four coffins were driven through the nearby market town of Wotton Bassett.

Cpl Bryant’s coffin was adorned with a bunch of red roses laid by her husband Carl.

Her commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Suggit said: “The spontaneity of what is done here is very impressive and is a real mark of respect to the victims and their families.”

Last week, Wotton Bassett paid tribute to another five war dead as their bodies were flown back.
