UK NEWSLABOUR ‘IN DENIAL’ OVER IMMIGRATIONWednesday June 11,2008 By Tom Whitehead Home Affairs CorrespondentLABOUR was accused of being in “absurd” denial last night as it prepares to officially slap down a devastating House of Lords report on the impact of mass immigration. Liam Byrne, Immigration Minister, will tomorrow claim that the findings of a powerful group of peers were “overspun” from “under-done” analysis. [>
In April, the House of Lords report ripped to shreds every economic argument the Govern-ment has put forward for its open-door policy and called for an annual cap. [>
But Mr Byrne will once again insist that immigrants are an economic benefit and will try to shrug off the study, which was compiled by leading economists and two former chancellors. [>
Despite this, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith yesterday admitted to the Cabinet that immigration had impacted on public services. [>
And in a speech today the Communities Secretary, Hazel Blears, will set out how the Government plans to deal with that impact – a clear acknowledgement that immigration has had an effect. [>
[> She revealed in April that one in four people living in Boston, Lincs, were from eastern Europe – believed to be the highest proportion of immigrants in any town or city in the country. [>
Shadow immigration minister Damian Green said last night that Mr Byrne was “floundering in the face of the evidence, denying the facts while still trying to sound tough.” [>
Mr Green said: “This cross-party committee, filled with senior Labour peers and experts, has made it clear that the basis of the Govern-ment’s arguments are wrong and that Labour’s weakness has let down the country. [>
“The committee even supported Conservative calls for a limit on immigration.” [>
And Sir Andrew Green, chairman of Migrationwatch UK, said: “This is an absurd attempt to counter-spin. [>
“This committee is one of the most authoritative in parliament.” [>
Mr Byrne, who attended yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, has already clearly signalled his view. In a speech last week he said the Lords’ Economic Affairs report was wrong. [>
And he added: “No matter which way you look at it, there is a good economic case for carefully controlled migration.” [>
A Downing Street spokesman said yesterday’s Cabinet meeting was “mainly on the potential benefits” immigration brought to the country and the economy, but “also relevant for ministers round the table was the impact on public services”. [>
The Lords’ report provided a point-by-point destruction of the supposed benefits of immigration to the UK. [>
It concluded there was no economic benefit and called on the Government to impose a limit, which ministers repeatedly ignore. [>
It said immigrants themselves were the “biggest winners” of current policy and dismissed claims that migrants were needed to fill jobs and support the growing demand for pensions. [>
It further warned that the in-flow could be forcing up unemployment among young Britons and pushing down wages. [>
The committee included two former Tory Chancellors, Lord Lawson and Lord Lamont, and leading economist Lord Layard. [>

is to end all immigration controls
to open all borders
The EU is a major part of this.
Global neo liberal marxist autocracy
A european China where the masses are too stupid or too weak to do anything for themselves - where the masses are controlled and lied to and exploited
Increasing and changing population numbers and composition is a major part of this agenda
Tis all part of the plan
DO NOT EXPECT OUR RULERS TO DO ANYTHING LOGICAL ABOUT MIGRATION

MODERATION TO IMMIGRATION
15.06.08, 7:13pm
After reading some of the other comments on here you can understand now why people indigenous to these shores are so peeved over what seems to be nothing more than a complete disregard of the facts by our 'elected' government.
What ever happened to the times when people would unite in order to make themselves heard?
What happened to the people who could organise groups of protesters at the drop of a hat?
I know...........Television. It’s the 'dummy' or pacifier that’s given to adults by the government so as to distract them for a little while.
Look at the petrol strikes when people were complaining because it almost hit the 1 pound mark. We had a few people up and down the country get together to voice there opinions, a bit of bad weather came along, a few interesting programmes came on TV and everyone slowly but surely went home.
If we really want to make a difference then we need more people with more will to fight for our country and our rights. How the government expects us as a nation to solve other people’s problems when we can't sort out our own is beyond me.
I'm willing to stand up and speak on behalf of the nation as my anger and dismay with what’s going on in my homeland is pushing me to boiling point.
I'm not saying no to immigration, I’m saying moderation to immigration.

The reaction to this story would have caused many goverments to back-pedal, and cool things down with the offer of a rethink. That is one with some respect for people they "serve" - that's just a joke, by the way This evil and totally corrupt bunch of pseudo socialists know exactly what the public and specialists think about being flooded with migrants, they know the fears that are generated and the strain on our infrastructure - not to mention the wasting of hundreds of millions of OUR cash. This colossal arrogance and insouciant patronage is becoming unbearable. Just what the hell can we do to smash this ugly bunch?. I even get sick of writing about it all, over and over. I get the feelings of anger and frustration from all the comments written , and would love to see a humiliation of this party of pig-ignorant morons.

PETER PAN

My answer to that is (and it's only an opinion) dont involve the parties. Lech Walesa started a movement in Poland called Solidarite. The people in this country could do the same. All they need is a catylist. THEN you involve the parties. If you have common ground you can unite them. The unions should be involved but their chiefs are all bent as well, so as I say it's up to the people... wanna join?

NOT DENIAL-- LYING!

If migrant workers, or non-workers from the new EU states are such a wonderful bonus to anywhere they go, why haven’t the other EU states opened their doors to them rather than impose restrictions? Are Germany, France Holland etc. run by total economic nitwits who are passing up this wonderful opportunity to improve their economies?
Interestingly, the same EU countries that don’t want peoples from the new EU also pass up the chance to enrich their countries by letting migrants and asylum seekers from the rest of the world pass through their countries en route to the UK rather than snap them up for a welcome boost to their own economies. It couldn’t possibly be the case that they put their own workers in their own country first?
Before Nu Lab castigates the British unemployed and praising migrants just take a look at the statistics for unemployment and welfare payments amongst second and third generation immigrants from Asia and the West Indies. The crime figures are also disproportionately higher than for the indigenous population.
Give it a generation and many of those hard working migrants from Poland will be replaced by their children living off the backs of the hard work of some other group of migrants; Welfare corrupts the will to work in the lazy.
Remember, the label BRITISH, now encompasses a lot of people who are not indigenous, but it is oh so easy to assume they are.
Weak governments will never solve this problem.
We also have a report on failing schools; there are a disproportionate number in areas of high immigration with children, including those actually born here, unable to speak English when they start school. I bet the huge cost of teaching them isn’t included in the ‘benefit’ figure for immigrants.
