ARE OUR HEALTH AND SAFETY LAWS A FARCE?

Have you had enough of rubbish rules?

Saturday June 7,2008

BURLY binmen are being forbidden to handle wheelie bins that are too heavy to be pulled by two fingers.

In the latest bout of health and safety madness, council taxpayers have been warned that breaking the rule means their rubbish will go unemptied

Katie Shergold, 26, found a "heavy" sticker slapped on her bin even though it contained dried grass cuttings and she had no problem moving it.

When she rang the council in Warminster, Wiltshire, she was told that binmen were allowed to leave bins that did not pass the "two finger" test.

So what do you think about mad health and safety rules like this? Have our laws gone a step too far? Have you experienced any health and safety madness?

I'M NOT BEING FUNNY

the amount of houshold waste that can be used for composting, or & recycled, is probably 90% of every housholds waste, from veg pealings to string & teabags, if not more than 90%; people are careless, sort it out! start thinking about what you do with your waste, rather than moaning about "I PAY TAX SO i HAVE A RIGHT TO HAVE ALL MY RUBBISH REMOVED", this is the masses attitude that got us herin the first place, no more landfills; let people start sifting through & seperating their waste, creating more compost, & send it abroad to dry lands, or lands where agriculture & farming are essential. ungrateful British.

IS THIS A JOKE?

Hoorah for the EU and it's legislation of health and safety.
Nobody here would say that the binmen should break their backs to get the job done but come on. My partner couldn't move the wheelie bin with 2 fingers when it's empty so does that mean people that apply for the job as a 'Refuse Technician' will be employed based on their ability to do the job and selected for there levels of strength? What about H&S training? will they be put through stupid training schemes to show how the test of a bins weight should be performed?

COUNCIL MUPPETS

20.06.08, 8:56pm

It amazes me that these Muppets created the weight by not emptying the bins weekly. (or should that now be weakly). Now they complain they are too heavy to move.

Mmmmmm.... now let me see I wonder what the solution could possibly be huh?

IS THERE A LAW YET -- - - - -??

19.06.08, 2:31am

That forbids you fixing a metal plate to the underside of the bin lid?? - Then the new quango of bin inspectors wouldn't be able to lift the lid with two fingers - so you couldn't be fined £5,000 as you have allowed them to look inside - ( if they can lift the lid).
