PAIR OF TITS NEST IN AN ASHTRAY
Blue tits are popular British birds due to their colorful plumage and acrobatic displays.

Smokers are in a flap after being banned from using a wall-mounted ashtray outside a pub due to a family of blue tits making a nest in it.
Regulars at The Cottage, in Thorpe St Andrew, near Norwich, first noticed the colorful birds about three weeks ago.
Now chicks have hatched inside the ashtray. The pair of blue tits are regularly seen flying to and from the small metal container.
Blue tits are common in Britain, often raising upwards of seven chicks to a nest. Birds often return to the same site year after year meaning that it's likely they will come back to the ashtray next summer.

SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL
29.05.08, 1:46pm
This gorgeous little creature with its extraordinary ability to seek out the most unusual of places to nest, temporarily anesthetizes us to our everyday worries to make sense of it all.
"He has lived this little thing in the grassy woods of spring and seen the starry hours, the springing of the flowers and the many things that pass in the forests of the grass, and in his times of silence heard the talking bee and ladybird, not a word will he disclose and not a word of all he knows" and so: It is fitting that just outside a busy pub the tiny protective parents know, they are able to trust all those who come and go. "For there in that ashtray a brown nest is seated and her four little eggs the mother keeps heated and while they stand watching her... safe in each egg are the bird's little babies. Soon the frail eggs shall chip and upspringing, make all the Spring woods come alive with their singing."
What a wonder and privilege it is that this family of Blue tits can so trustingly make this their home. For those who yearn for all we have lost of the England we once knew this story is so heartwarming and says something good about English people today.

SMOKERS ARN'T IN A FLAP OVER ASHTRAY

I read that the smokers have had no problem with the birds nesting. I'd expect them to put out nuts for the birds soon.
i'm surprised that the ash tray is still there and rabid anti smokers havn't smashed it as it's a symbol of the evil weed they so despise.
