MINISTERS TO CLOSE PORN LOOPHOLE

Maria Eagle has backed plans to close a porn loophole

Wednesday May 28,2008

Anyone caught with drawings or computer-generated images of child sexual abuse will face up to three years in prison under new Government proposals.

Ministers want to make owning the material illegal to close a loophole which allows paedophiles to dodge justice by turning real photographs or videos of abuse into drawings or cartoons.

Justice minister Maria Eagle said the move was not intended to curb creativity or freedom of expression but to tackle images which had "no place in society".

Ms Eagle said: "These new proposals will help close a loophole that we believe paedophiles are using to create images of child sexual abuse.

"This is not about criminalising art or pornographic cartoons more generally, but about targeting obscene, and often very realistic, images of child sexual abuse which have no place in our society."

Selling or distributing such material is already illegal under the Obscene Publications Act, but owning drawings or computer generated images of child abuse is currently not an offence.

The Government wants to see a maximum three-year jail sentence brought in for possessing the images, compared to a maximum five-year term for possessing indecent photographs of children.

The proposals will create a new criminal offence to possess drawings and computer-generated images of under-aged children in sexual activity.

The move follows a public consultation by the Ministry of Justice on non-photographic representations of minors involved in sexual activity.

ANNR YOU ARE NOT "GOING CRAZY". WELCOME TO THE BANANA REPUBLIC OF ONCE GREAT BRITAIN

28.05.08, 9:09am

Another day. Another wheelbarrow full of spin and waffle issued by Dictator Prudence U-Turn Brown.

This country is absolutely PATHETIC when it comes to dealing with miscreants.

NOW JACK STRAW IS GOING TO RELEASE COUNTLESS CONVICTED CRIMINALS EARLY - BECAUSE THE PRISONS ARE FULL. ISN'T THAT JUST WONDERFUL?

I have a better idea - EMPTY our prisons AND PUT ALL THE MEALY-MOUTHED, TWO-FACED FIDDLING MP's BEHIND BARS FOR LIFE.

That would be a great start on the road to recovery.

THERE IS A LOT MORE TO THIS THAN MEETS THE EYE

28.05.08, 8:37am

When ever Labour slip something like this out,Beware, you have to look at the bigger picture, next you will hear licenses for Cameras, if they were really that bothered with Child porn offences they would reflect that in the jail terms, but they do not ? this is just another way of allowing the State to control yet another aspect of our lives.

Try actualy locking them up if you are that bothered and throw the key away ?
