Margaret Beckett blew more than £12,000 of your cash sprucing up her house

Saturday May 24,2008

TAXPAYERS have paid a staggering £6,000 for redecorating Gordon Brown’s kitchen and bedroom, new figures have revealed.

The supposedly “prudent” Prime Minister also used your hard-earned cash to fund his satellite TV bills and buy him more than £200 worth of food a month. He even claimed £15 for lightbulbs!

Former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott pocketed £7,000 in expenses for sprucing up his mock Tudor mansion in Hull. Close Blair ally Peter Mandelson claimed nearly £3,000 to revamp a bathrooom.

And former Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett claimed a staggering total of £12,170 for house repairs!

It explains why MPs waged a three-year, £100,000 legal battle to try to keep the records secret.

But what do YOU think?

SEARCH HAVE YOUR SAY for:

Is this just a perk of the job, something MPs, who only earn a basic salary of £62,000, need to survive?

Or is this an outrageous abuse of power?

SHOULD WE CLAMP DOWN ON OUR GREEDY MPS

21.06.08, 10:52pm

I have sent five letters to Gordon and two to David Miliband this week and was thinking of not putting a stamp on any of them, as when they reply, they do so at our expense. I am sick to death of our GREEDY MPs RIPPING US OFF No matter what party. They still have their gilt edge pensions. we get 10p and have to wait a year.

The whole lot needs sorting out. They don't live in the same world they get everything paid for, by us, the muppts. Because we stand for it.

If we are in europe i want to be in for ALL THE BENEFITS, not just the one's this or any other gov wants us to sign up for. It's either all or nothing. At the moment it's nothing.

CLEAN UP THE CONSERVATIVES --WHY ??

07.06.08, 3:59pm

The Labour are over, its just a matter of time before the Election is called...
The Conservatives are the "Other" party so are bound to be topping the charts in the same way that in America Barak Obama is the opposite to George Bush and will win as the People's Choice and die as the Kennerdy's die, a politician's choice.

The British Conservatives have not changed from the bumbling days of John Major, they have not decided what they stand for, they will not repeal the Lisbon Treaty, they still claim to be able to reform the eu from inside.!! (LOL )..they don't seem intent on reforming anything as they fill Chichester harbour with taxpayer's money .
And that nice Mr not BlairorBrown Cameron has already said that he wants to waste more British troops in Iraq and can't wait to waste the rest in IRAN !

""A pre-emptive military strike against Iran involving British troops could be launched under a Conservative government after David Cameron yesterday refused to rule out the use of force against the Gulf state.

David Cameron in Davos
Mr Cameron said it would be wrong for a future Tory administration to rule out an attack on Iran.""
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1540650/Iran-attack-possible,-says-Cameron.html

So, not Labour, not Conservative, Liberal ... no, they only thrive on booze and sex,BNP ? , just a bunch of thugs , Maybe UKIP could sort out this country and goven for the Benefit of the British people ?
It will sure upset the BBC Today programme if they do !!

CONSERVATIVE AND LABOUR MP'S ARE CROOKS

07.06.08, 7:59am

It is both the Conservatives and the Labour party that are grooming CROOKS.

We can see this very clearly and corruption and abuse of power at the top has mushroomed into all our once rspected institutions as those at the top demand protection and cover-up from the vdry Institutions who should be upholding the law.

There is no point going on about the thugs, the knife crime, violence, burglaries and the louts, when the BAD example is coming from the very top , the very powerful, the very influential and those holding titles and priviledges over and above those of ordinary people.

Great Britain has to be cleaned up FROM the TOP, before it can be cleaned up at the bottom.

This is ELEMENTARY LOGIC.

There is no point Cameron looking down from the height of his bike and pointing a finger at Blair/Brown in the mud, as his buddies are worse and just as much into covering it up.

Just because Blair was into illegality and saw us into an illegal and undesireable war and what so many consider an illegal and undesirable Royal marriage, which has opened up wide doors on corruption abuse of power and cover up as we have never seen before, doesn't mean that Cameron and his buddies cannot do worse and cover it up better, does it?

It's time for our elected mp's to come it to line and be more realistic on the spending they our receiveing. It seems to be being abused mps with to houses events attended outside uk when they could be done here and the wages increase at the own will it's time this was taken out of the hands altogether they should get no more the the rate of inflation increase, and not be able to relable purks so they can continue to receive them but by other means. local govenment seem to be the worth as some councillor earn more than our pm and his cabinet.

I AGREE USELSS, WE SHOULD START LOOKING MORE IN THE DIRECTION OF INDEPENDANT

31.05.08, 11:08am

It is true Uselss that we should perhaps start looking more in the direction of the Independant parties.

Why is there such little mention of them when we know that the Conservateves are just as corrupt as the Labour party and then they are more inclined to the CLUB, 'Pull -the -String' mentality aren't they?

Don't tell us Cameron will not be pulling strings for his buddies and school mates as we won't believe it!

If your MP is not voting against this move to give themselves even more money and hide their expenses, as opposed to abstaining, which they think will leave others to do their dirty work without getting tarnished themsellves, the solution could be vote for Any Indepent on the list to get rid of your MP,this will give them a reality check.MPs at the moment are above the law ,.look at Blair shredding his account before they got exposed,if they are supposed to be kept for 6 years then he should be prosecuted.
I read tha a list of MPs approving the concealment of their expenses will be published ,this will be the opportunity to notice who they are and vote them out, not necessarily vote Conservative or Liberal but a true independant
