WHO SAID CHIVALRY IS DEAD...

Story Image

George Clooney is considered the most chivalrous celebrity

Wednesday April 23,2008

By Polly Buchanan

ROMANCE may be dead, but chivalry certainly isn’t.

A staggeringly gallant 90 per cent of men regularly open doors for women, a  survey claimed yesterday.

British men may not have the charm of the Italian stallion or the sophistication of French fancies, but when it comes to manners you can’t fault them.

Three-quarters of men say they always carry a heavy bag for a lady.

Over half of males enjoy picking up the bill after dinner while one in three claims to frequently defend a woman’s honour, according to the research by DatingDirect.com.

Whether these knights in shining armour were sober at the time of their duels is not revealed.

But being treated like a princess clearly has an effect on women – 77 per cent admit they find it attractive if a man holds a door open for them. The same number enjoy having men carry their bags.

One in five manipulative minxes enjoys being treated like royalty so much they put on a “damsel in distress” act to seek help – a performance that 70 per cent of their suitors fall for.

DatingDirect’s Katie Mowe comments: “A touch of chivalry and displays of  protectiveness go a long way with the ladies.

“Modern men should embrace a renaissance of good old-fashioned values and chivalry and use them to their advantage when wooing a potential partner.”

The celebrity who most embodies chivalry? “Gorg-eous” George Clooney stole 34 per cent of the vote. He is named Most Saintly Male.
