The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to hospital

Friday April 4,2008

By Julia White for express.co.uk

THE Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to hospital with a chest infection, Buckingham Palace said today.

A spokesperson said that Prince Philip was taken to King Edward VII Hospital in central London for assessment and treatment .

Philip, 86, did not attend a thanksgiving service for Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary on Wednesday because he was taken ill with a cold, Buckingham Palace said.

Today’s statement from the Palace said: “The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to the King Edward VIIth hospital for assessment and treatment for a chest infection.

“His Royal Highness’s programme of engagements for the weekend have been cancelled.”

According the sources the Duke, who is 87 in June, has only been admitted as a precautionary measure and is still working from hospital.

IN MY OPINION, IT MUST BE SERIOUS ...

04.04.08, 4:49pm

The Duke of Edinburgh is an extremely hard- working man who doesn't believe in being ill as he has his duties to perform. Therefore, especially at his age (86) I believe this must be serious. I wish him and the Queen all the very best for a speedy recovery. It will be a huge shame for this country when we lose this great man. We need more people with his modesty and work ethic in this country.

I THINK JONO IS RIGHT

04.04.08, 4:32pm

I think the Duke would not have been taken in the snail ambulance Diana was and neither would any other member of the Royal family.

Although Diana was the mother of a Future King, she was treated , even by the Head of the Police, as a third rate citizen and her greatest fears which actually came to pass, as eh was warned they wouold, were simply ignored.

I do not think the Duke was ignored.
