PREGNANT MAN: I'LL BE A GREAT DAD
Thomas Beatie and his bump
By Emily Garnham for express.co.uk
A MARRIED man who used to be a woman says he is six months pregnant and looking forward to the birth of his “miracle” daughter.
Thomas Beatie, 34, of Bend, Oregon, first claimed he was pregnant in an article headlined “Labour of Love” in gay magazine The Advocate last month.
But many observers thought the story was a hoax after he said he would
not give any interviews until April Fool’s Day and reports speculated
that the story could be connected to a new series masterminded by actor
Ashton Kutcher, which plays pranks on the media.
But yesterday, Mr Beatie told US TV chat show host Oprah: “I see
pregnancy as a process and it doesn’t define who I am. It’s not a male
or female desire to want to have a child, it’s a human desire.
“And I’m a person and I have the right to have my own biological child.”

Mr Beatie appeared with his wife, Nancy, for the couple’s first
television interview exclusively with the Oprah Show and People
magazine.
Viewers
across the US were shown footage of the couple’s ultrasound scan and
heard the sound of a heartbeat.
As he saw the scan on the monitor, Mr Beatie told the doctor: “She’s
kicking. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe she’s inside me. This is a
miracle. We see this as a miracle.”
He said getting dressed was “growing increasingly difficult” and added:
“Ironically being pregnant doesn’t make me feel any more female or
feminine.
“It doesn’t
make me want to go and shave my legs or something. I’m a man, I just
happen to be a pregnant man.”
Mr Beatie went on: “I think that different is normal and love makes a
family. And that’s all that matters.”
He told Oprah that he had a sex change but “opted not to do anything to
my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day”.
“I didn’t know how, it was just a dream,” he said.
“There was no plan laid out.”
Mr Beatie, who described himself as a tomboy growing up, is a former
Miss Teen Hawaii finalist and told Oprah he “found himself” at college
after a boyfriend told him he was not feminine enough.
“I feel like I was meant to be exactly who I am today,” he said.
Mr Beatie said many US organisations which the couple contacted for
help said going public was not a good idea and told them: “The world’s
not ready for something like this.”
But he said: “I think that people will be shocked because no-one’s ever
heard of a man giving birth before.
“I guess it’s a shocking concept, but in this day and age that’s
possible. And it’s happening now.”
Asked why they had chosen to go public, his wife said: “We thought it
was best we tell the story, rather than having other people tell the
story for us.”
Dr
Kimberley James, the couple’s doctor in Bend, Oregon, told the show:
“This is a normal pregnancy. This baby’s totally healthy and this is, I
consider, an average pregnancy.”
Asked about her own reputation, Dr James said: “I hope I’m perceived as
someone who’s providing quality care for a pregnant patient.”
The couple are supported by Mrs Beatie’s two grown-up daughters, Amber
and Jen, from a previous marriage, but Mr Beatie told the show that his
father and brothers had found it hard to come to terms with.
Last month, it was revealed that Mr Beatie, who was pictured topless
with a swollen belly in The Advocate, had previously posed for a gay
magazine as a woman.
Mr Beatie posed as a muscular woman before his sex change with his
bikini-clad girlfriend, Nancy, in 2000. A second picture showed the
couple in a wedding-style photograph taken in Honolulu in 2002.
Mr Beatie was born female and called Tracy Lagondino before undergoing
gender reassignment surgery. He is now legally male and married to a
woman.
He was able to
get pregnant because he kept his female organs when he switched genders
and decided to carry a baby for his wife because she had a hysterectomy
several years ago.
The couple have been together for 10 years and married for five.

I THINK THAT IT TOOK GREAT STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO GO PUBLIC ABOUT HIS PREGNANCY.
EVERY PERSON HAS A RIGHT TO HAVE THEIR OWN BIOLOGICAL CHILD AND NO ONE HAS A RIGHT TO JUDGE THOMAS OR ANYONE ELSE. ALSO, IF THOMAS CHOOSES TO IDENTIFY AS A MALE THAT IS PREGNANT THEN THAT IS HIS BUSINESS. IT IS NOT YOUR PLACE TO JUDGE AND IT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!
THIS CHILD THOMAS IS CARRYING IS PROBABLY THE LUCKIEST CHILD IN THE WORLD. SHE WILL BE BLESSED WITH TWO LOVING PARENTS THAT ARE OVERCOMING GREAT OBSTACLES TO HAVE HER. WE SHOULD ALL BE SO LUCKY

The headline "pregnant man" should be scratched since this is really a weirdly transformed woman. It probably is all about money but the whole thing is sick whatever.

Sorry... I meant to say how can she possible be considered a "MAN".
And having some cosmetic surgery is a charade too.
She is a woman in disguise so to speak.

THIS PERSON IS A WOMAN !!

This person is a woman. Taking some hormones, wearing your hair like a man and wearing men's clothes are a charade.
How on earth can this person be considered a "woman" by any stretch of the imagination when she has her female reproductive organs obviously intact? Plain silly, ignorant and ridiculous. It's all for money. SHAME on her.
My question is WHO is the father?
