MDC ANNOUNCE THAT MUGABE HAS BEEN DEFEATED

The MDC claim Tsvangirai is Zimbabwe's new leader

ZIMBABWE'S opposition party, The Movement For Democratic Change (MDC), has claimed that Robert Mugabe has been defeated in the presidential elections.

They say that leader Morgan Tsvangirai is the country's new president and that the MDC has now won a majority over Mugabe's ZANU-PF in the parliamentary elections.

MDC Party Secretary General Tendai Biti told said that Mr Tsvangirai had won 50.3 per cent of the vote and Mugabe won 43.8 per cent.

Results have yet to be officially confirmed.
