FIVE MILLION SWITCH ENERGY FIRMS
Over five million people switched their energy supplier last year
More than five million people switched their energy supplier last year, new figures show.
The number of people changing their gas and electricity company hit 5.1 million in 2007 - a five-year high, according to energy regulator Ofgem.
The figure is up from approximately 4.8 million switches in 2006.
Ofgem said Scottish and Southern Energy had overtaken E.On as Britain's second biggest energy supplier after British Gas in an example of "vigorous competition" in the market.
Customers who have yet to switch could still save an average of £92 a year, despite all the major suppliers increasing their prices, according to the regulator.
Ofgem chief executive Alistair Buchanan said: "The number of customers switching supplier is increasing and five million account switches alone in 2007 shows that suppliers who don't offer competitive prices and good service will lose customers.
"However, some customers have voiced concerns about the market and we have responded by launching an investigation to examine whether it is working effectively for all customers."
Suppliers were continuing to compete by providing tariffs to suit customers, including fixed-price deals, online account deals and green electricity tariffs, which together amounted to around nine million accounts to date.
Research had found pensioners, the unemployed and those on low incomes were less likely to switch than other groups.
In response, Ofgem has launched a pilot campaign called Energy Best Deal with Citizens Advice to encourage more of these customers to switch to a better deal.
BRUTISH GAS
02.04.08, 10:06am
Brutish gas sent me a bill for £850 which very quickly became £1100,I refused to pay since they refused to give details as to how it was accrued...I was passed to two debt agencies who I wrote to and said that if they can show that I genuinely owe this money I will pay but if not then I suggest that they take me to court and I will attend...after about two years they finally gave up and had to write the £1100 off of their half billion profit.
The wicked venal government encourages them because when they have ripped off the old folks and the decent the government takes it off of them...the vermin at Brutish Gas who do this get very well paid but the majority of the money goes to the government. Damn them to hell ...

U SWITCH FROM ONE RIP-OFF ENERGY SUPPLIER TO THE NEXT.....
02.04.08, 9:00am
WHAT does Buffoon Brown know about paying a gas or electricity bill?
When did the slimy Brown stand in a queue outside his nearest Post Office in the pouring rain, clutching his latest utility bill, shivering with cold, hungry because he cannot afford to buy both food and pay this extortionate demand so the fat-cats who head-up these rip-off energy suppliers can become even fatter?
WHO pays Buffoon Brown's utility bills? WE DO.
We are the mugs for allowing this so-called Government to trample us into the dust.
British Gas kept sending me frightening gas bills for gas I had never used. The next week I would get another British Gas demand about £85 higher than the previous bill and so on.....I wrote to the Chief Executive of Centrica and told him that if he didn't get off my back I would take him to court. In the end British Gas decided TO PAY ME!! as they did not wish to proceed to a public court. What kind and caring people they are at British Gas. It's a pity I changed to Powergen the next day!!
Nobody likes change. Our routines are set.
Just like Buffoon Brown is rigidly set in his dictatorial ways.
Brown the clown will go down as the biggest control freak England has ever known. No less.
