LABOUR IS 'FAILING ORDINARY PEOPLE'

Ivan Lewis fears Labour is failing ordinary people

Sunday March 30,2008

One of Gordon Brown's ministers warned that the Government is "too often" failing to tackle the concerns of ordinary people.

Labour is ignoring issues most important to hard-working families, junior health minister Ivan Lewis said.

"This is not a criticism of Gordon, but we have been in government 11 years and instead of being on the side of the people, too often we simply defend the status quo, even when it is unacceptable," he told the News of the World.

In an article, Mr Lewis said it was ironic that Labour, having "revolutionised" communications in politics, had "failed so dismally" to persuade people that it had delivered improvements in public services and living standards.

"It is right we focus on the great challenges of climate change, globalisation, security and poverty at home and abroad and the nature of public service reform," he said. "However, we are too often silent on the daily realities facing hardworking families."

His comments contrast with the Prime Minister's remarks at the launch of Labour's local election campaign on Tuesday.

In a foreword to the campaign launch document, Mr Brown wrote: "Our starting point is, and always will be, the struggles and the hopes and ambitions of hard working families."

Mr Brown has faced increasing disgruntlement within his own ranks recently as Labour trails the Tories in the polls by up to 14 points.

Former ministers Charles Clarke and Alan Milburn have also voiced concerns about Labour's fortunes since the last-minute decision to abandon a general election last autumn.

ASTOUNDING - NOT CRITICISM?

30.03.08, 2:30pm

I'm not only astonished at the antics of greedy, grabbing snouts deep in the trough "Nu-Labour", I'm dumbfounded to think they can get away with it. They must believe they're fireproof, I'm just waiting now for one of them to walk on water.....don't believe I was on this planet the last time it happened however, I wouldn't want to miss it when one of these charlatans give it a whirl. Perhaps the Speaker of the House of Commons Michael Martin, who appears to have a miraculous way of manipulating £1.7 million, could accommodate us & show how it may be achieved.

THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM OF GORDON?

30.03.08, 11:01am

Oh yes it is!

11 years at (or very near) the top have gone to Gordon's head. Single handedly Gordon turned Labour's last manifesto into the biggest work of fiction in all time.

Gordon is a deaf, dumb and blind kid who only thinks of himself (and cuddling up to foreigners). Gordon is utterly oblivious to the concerns of ordinary British people.

On that basis Labour (under Gordon) no longer deserves support.

ASTOUNDING NEWS!! LABOUR IS 'FAILING ORDINARY PEOPLE'

30.03.08, 5:45am

GIVE ME A BREAK IVAN LEWIS. WHAT THE HELL DO YOU KNOW ABOUT POVERTY?

THIS LABOUR GOVERNMENT HAVEN'T A CLUE AS TO HOW THE OTHER HALF ARE FORCED TO LIVE.

GORDON BROWN HAS SCREWED THE ORDINARY WORKING MAN INTO THE GROUND. POVERTY EXISTS IN A HOME NEAR YOU.

PEOPLE THROW UP A FACADE OF SO-CALLED RESPECTABILITY TO IMPRESS THEIR NEIGHBOURS - BUT UNDERNEATH THE PHONEY GLOSS LIES THE REAL TRUTH.

THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE LIVING IN DIRE POVERTY IN THE UK THAN THERE ARE IN SOME THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES. THAT IS A FACT.

HOW SURPRISING! THE ONCE GREAT BRITAIN HAS FALLEN TO THE SCOURGE OF DESTITUTE PEOPLE. PEOPLE WHO, THROUGH LITTLE FAULT OF THEIR OWN, NOW FIND THEMSELVES HOMELESS, UNWANTED AND UNLOVED.

IVAN LEWIS DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SPELL THE WORD POVERTY, LET ALONE KNOW WHAT IT MEANS. IT IS LEWIS AND HIS CRONIES WHO HAVE ALLOWED THIS COUNTRY TO FALL INTO A STATE OF PANIC.

POLITICIANS JUMP ON ANY BAND-WAGON THAT SEEMS TO BE GOING THEIR WAY.

SPIN AND WAFFLE ARE THE ORDER OF THE DAY.

THE PUBLIC HAVEN'T A CLUE ABOUT THE ACTUAL STATE OF THIS COUNTRY. THEIR INTAKE OF NEWS IS DERIVED FROM THREE MAIN SOURCES - TELEVISION, RADIO AND NEWSPAPERS. 95% OF ALL "NEWS" NEVER SEES THE LIGHT OF DAY.

WHILST WE ARE GOVERNED BY SLIPPERY CHARACTERS WHOSE PRIME CONCERN IS TO SEE JUST HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN SCREW FROM THE BATTERED TAX PAYER AND HOW MUCH THEY CAN GET THEIR GRUBBY HANDS UPON BY WAY OF SALARY/EXPENSES/FIDDLES, THERE IS ZERO CHANCE THAT BRITAIN WILL EVER RECOVER TO ITS FORMER GLORY.
