BATTLE TO SAVE THE HUMBLE SEASIDE POSTCARD
SAUCY: Some seaside postcards are downright saucy but all are facing extinction
By Jo Willey
THE great British postcard has long been a vital part of any seaside holiday.
But it seems the tradition now faces extinction, because of the decline in letter-writing.
The rise of mobile phones and emails means people feel much less inclined to spend time writing a card to loved ones.
Research reveals that postcard use has plummeted by 75 per cent in the past 10 years.
Now Coast magazine has launched a campaign and a competition to redress the balance. It also wants to preserve the record that postcards create of the changing coastline and seaside communities.
Coast magazine editor Clare Gogerty, said: “Postcards are as important to the British seaside as fish and chips or rock.
“We are in danger of losing this silly, saucy and sunny way of communicating.
