EMISSIONS WARNING OVER BIOFUELS
Defra chief scientist Robert Watson has advised caution over biofuels
The compulsory use of biofuels to partially power every vehicle in Britain could cause higher levels of greenhouse gas emissions, the Government's top environment scientist warned.
Professor Robert Watson called for the move - designed to cut harmful carbon emissions - to be postponed while a review of the impact of biofuels is carried out.
The Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation (RTFO) is due to take effect from April 1, when biofuels will have to comprise at least 2.5% of fuel at the pumps.
But Prof Watson, chief scientist at the Department for the Environment, cautioned that there were still doubts about the effects of at least some biofuels. "Many people still believe that some biofuels are indeed still sustainable from an environmental standpoint," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
"I think we need to check that. It would obviously be totally insane if we had a policy to try and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the use of biofuels that's actually leading to an increase in the greenhouse gases from biofuels."
Biofuels, mainly ethanol and diesel made from plants, have been promoted as an alternative to the use of liquid fuels in transport which account for about a quarter of global greenhouse emissions.
A coalition of Britain's leading environmental and development groups has written a joint letter to the Government warning that its biofuels policy risked doing more harm than good.
In a letter to Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly, groups including Oxfam, CAFOD, RSPB, IIED, Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace said "there is a very real risk that the RTFO will make climate change worse, not better".
Doug Parr, chief scientific adviser of Greenpeace, said: "From next month British motorists will be forced to pump biofuels into their tanks with no way of knowing if the so-called green fuels they're using are actually worse for the climate than regular fossil fuels.
"For one of the Government's top scientists to describe these plans as potentially insane suggests that something has gone seriously wrong here."

BIOFUELS
24.03.08, 1:43pm
I overheard a conversation recently between 2 guys, one who had just had his MOT done. He was telling the other one that since he had started running his diesel vehicle on 50% Diesel and 50% Vegetable Oil Mixture the exhaust emissions at the test centre had just registered practically Zero and of course it had passed the Test.
Yes he said thats just through using a mixture of diesel and veggie and to think that last year they told me that my emissions were only just a borderline pass and that serious work would be needed to get it through next time.
Just goes to show doesnt it ?

FUEL WITH NO EMISSIONS EXCEPT WATER READ ON:

Bio fuel that emits no Emissions but Water.
No additional Its true there is a free cheap fuel that not only costs virtually nothing in itself, like the cost of a litre of water but is better for your car and environment. Many are reporting savings of up to 100% and more on present consumption. Few realise that presently out of a 50 litre tank, 10 litres are burned and the balance of 40 litres is pumped out the exhaust via the catalytic converter un-burnt. So how can you improve the burn. Just draw a quick comparison with what I am about to reveal to you. The truth is you no longer have to be sit and be ripped off by both petrol companies and government. One litre of water makes of 8,000 litres of safe fuel that compliments the petrol or diesel. Let me explain by means of a well know example……..
When we light the fire of a barbeque it is not practice to use only a match to get the charcoal burning. We use progressively easier combustors. If you are a purist you make a small column of kindling wood and put paper at the bottom and then put some charcoal on top. Set the paper on fire, this lights the wood which once it gets hot enough lights the charcoal. Impatient people like me often just throw some white sprits on the charcoal and throw a match, whoosh the whole lots start burning.
Fuel cells work in a similar way. HHO gas is over three times as combustible as petrol. The fuel cell produces the HHO gas on demand so there is no more than an egg cup full in the cells at any time, and once used it reverts to water, so no pollution and it can save up to and in some cases over 100% of fuel; In other words fuel cells with tweaking can boost the present 10 litres per 50 litres by up to 20 litres per 50 and more.. ……… Rather than me explain it here, visit the following sites which have lots of explanations and a video. There are two sites one for cars and another for trucks, busses and boats etc.
For cars go to:
www.toamazing.com/freecheapfuel.html
For trucks, busses vans boats go to:
www.toamazing.com/fuel4truckers.html
It’s amazing to think you are using water to drive your car. How crazy is that.
