Andrew Symonds prepares to bring the streaker's run to a painful halt

Wednesday March 5,2008

By Martyn Brown

FOR a cricketer, Australia’s Andrew Symonds shows he’s also expert at rugby-style tackling.

A streaker learnt his lesson the hard way after sprinting on to the pitch at Brisbane’s Gaba stadium.

He came down to earth with a bump after evading security during the match when Australia were defeated by India yesterday.

All-rounder Symonds stood his ground and used his shoulder to stop the man as he ran by.

The 26-year-old streaker from Brisbane was escorted away by police and charged with disrupting the game and indecent exposure. He faces a fine of £1,400.

A senior sergeant said he was not injured – apart from a bruised ego.

“It was a dare from mates. He realises he’s done a dumb thing,” he said.

But Symonds – who has trained with rugby league side Brisbane Broncos – now waits to find out if he faces disciplinary charges for his “physical” intervention.
