ALESHA IS DANCING QUEEN

Story Image

Alesha and Matt triumphed

Sunday December 23,2007

By Marco Giannangeli

ALESHA Dixon was crowned queen of the dance last night after winning the keenly-fought Strictly Come Dancing showdown.

The Mis-Teeq singer, who consistently stunned the BBC1 judges with the high calibre of her routines though the 12-week series, slinked her way to victory with dance partner Matthew Cutler.

It was a stunning result for the 29-year-old who admitted she had feared what 2007 would bring, following the breakdown of her marriage to British rapper MC Harvey.

The diva was cheered on by her grandmother, Clem, and her mother Beverley.

But there was no sign of her estranged father, who left the family home when she was just four, or older brother Mark Harris who recently attacked the singer for putting the pursuit of fame before family.

“I actually thought 2007 was going to be terrible, but because of Strictly my confidence is back, dancing actually saved me. I’ve got the real me back.

“This is the best Christmas present ever.”

Last night’s climactic finale showed Matt Di Angelo and Flavia Cacace dancing the American Smooth, salsa, quickstep, a show dance and the Viennese waltz, while Alesha and Matthew performed the waltz, cha-cha-cha, a show dance, jive and Viennese waltz.

Alesha has already said she cannot join celebrity contestants for the UK Strictly tour, because she will be in Asia.

NO WONDER WE DIDN'T 'WIN' TICKETS

23.12.07, 1:57pm

Congratulations to Alesha & Matt. You deserved to win. The whole show is just fantastic. However the faces in the best seats in the audience were BBC employees. No wonder very few licence payers got tickets to see the show live. BBC staff should only be allowed to go if no one else wants the seats.

23.12.07, 10:16am

CONGRATULATIONS AND WELL DONE ALESHA AND MATTHEW- YOU DESERVED IT. I THINK MATT AND FLAVIA WERE FANTASTIC TOO AND THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN JOINT WINNERS. IT DOESN'T TAKE BRAIN SURGERY TO REALISE THAT THE AMATEUR MALE DANCERS ARE AT A DISADVANTAGE BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO LEAD WHICH IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN FOLLOWING! SO CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL FOUR OF YOU - WONDERFUL PERFORMANCES! LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR'S NOW - THE ONLY DECENT BIT OF VARIETY TELEVISION THESE DAYS!
