ROW OVER DEPORTATION OF CRIMINALS

Friday December 21,2007

Thousands of convicted foreign drug dealers, thieves and fraudsters are remaining in Britain because the Government has "no interest" in deporting them, it is claimed.

The startling admission that there is a policy of ignoring less serious offenders came in a memo circulated to prison governors by HM Prison Service.

It states that "as a rule" the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) will not try to eject foreigners sentenced to under 12 months - unless the courts have recommended them for deportation.

The Tories insisted the revelation made a mockery of Gordon Brown's pledge to crack down on non-UK nationals who commit crime here.

Shadow Justice Secretary Nick Herbert said at least 4,000 offenders could be benefiting from the policy every year.

"The result will be that foreign thieves, fraudsters, burglars and drugs dealers will be released back into the community," he said.

"Gordon Brown claimed that he wanted to send a message that foreign criminals would be deported.

"It takes a special kind of cynicism to promise tough action on foreign criminals while simultaneously instructing that the majority of them are to be released."

However, BIA chief executive Lin Homer insisted that the Government was determined to kick out serious offenders.

"The Prime Minister was categorical earlier this year that we are committed to the removal of foreign national prisoners who commit serious crimes in this country. Nothing in this document changes that and in fact this year we have removed more foreign nationals than ever before."

ROW OVER DEPORTATION OF CRIMINALS

21.12.07, 10:20pm

Each and every non-national who commits any crime that involves a custodial sentence should automatically be deported and consideration should be given to removing the ‘permission to stay’ from the entire family.
If our politicians can't get their heads around this then they are not fit to continue in post and they too should be removed.
What do we need to do to get our politicians to take note of what we want - RIOT IN THE STREET like the French?
Labour in Scotland has already consigned themselves to annihilation at the next election for both Westminster and Holyrood. Let England ensure they are rejected in the South. Then burn the Criminals Charter AKA The Human Rights Act!

"NO INTEREST IN DEDPORTING THEM"?

21.12.07, 7:39pm

In that case its up to us the people to make them interested why should anymore of our hard earned money be spent on keeping them.
Surely that must be out HUMAN RIGHT not to finance undesirable criminals keeping them on our soil.
A Government should not be able to please themselves, they are only people, like the rest of
us ,who have been elected into office to govern with the will of the people, otherwise it is a Dictatorship and for that no one voted .
It's action that is required from them ,not indifference

ITS NOT WORTH IT

21.12.07, 5:15pm

Really its not worth ejecting the criminals from the Country - they will all come back due to the complete inability and unsuitability of our CJ system. They would get real jail in their Country but just months in the UK.

Next time you travel just look at the efficiency and types employed to deal with Immigrants! Entry is a piece of cake - very, very, very easy.
Go to say Dovr an there is practically no ssystems at all - might be harder at London airport.

To be fair to BROWN dont thin that Cameronwill be much more efficient anyway..

LIES, LIES AND YET MORE LIES FROM THIS CORRUPT GOVERNMENT

21.12.07, 3:26pm

.......I cannot wait for the day we see the smug and slimey faces of Nu Labour MPs rabble thrown out at a General Election.

All we see now it crass incompetence, sleaze, corruption, spin and lies!

What, by the way, can be so difficult about putting these ex-crims on the next flight out of the UK back to where ever they came from.

I've said it time and again, if you cannot get Civil Servants to do it then I will volunteer - for free - to do the job!
