NEW IMAGE IN HUNT FOR MISSING BEN
The image of how Ben Needham might look today
Wednesday October 10,2007
The mother of missing Ben Needham, who disappeared in Greece 16 years ago, said she hoped a new artist's impression would prompt her son to get in touch.
Kerry Grist, 34, from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, issued a message to Ben asking him to find her as the new image was released to coincide with his 18th birthday later this month.
The "age-progression" picture was created by the Metropolitan Police Facial Imaging Team, at the request of Ms Grist, using family photos to show how he would look today. It has been issued by the National Missing Person's Bureau in time for Ben's 18th birthday on October 29.
Ben was 21 months old when he was last seen on the island of Kos on July 24, 1991, close to an old farmhouse which was being renovated by his grandparents.
His mother has always believed he was snatched and is alive but, although the Greek police logged up to 200 possible sightings, he has never been found.
On Wednesday Ms Grist said she hoped the picture might prompt Ben to question who he was and try to get in touch with her.
Sending a message to her son, she said: "Find who you are. If you're out there - I know he's out there somewhere - if you've got any suspicion about your life, follow it up, go with your heart and find me because I've tried and I've tried and I've tried for 16 years to find you.
"My message is find me and I'll be here for you, I'll always be here for you."
Ms Grist said she wanted to raise publicity about what Ben might look like as he reached adulthood and came into contact with various authorities.
"I want to make all these people aware to look out for somebody who resembles this picture and if they think there's anything suspicious to get in touch," she said.
KERRY I HOPE YOU ARE SOON REUNITED WITH BEN
10.10.07, 1:34pm
I have far more sympathy for Kerry and her losing Ben, than I do for the McCann's who lost Maddy by their own selfish neglect.
Kerry is a good loving caring mother who did not deserve to lose Ben nor did he deserve to be taken from his mother.
I sincerely hope Kerry that you are very soon reunited with Ben and its a pity we cannot post our email addresses safely online here as I can do a lot to help you to find Ben.
Ben is a lovely guy and a credit to you.
I have a daughter of 17 (18 next year) and I cannot imagine not having seen my daughter for as long as you have been without Ben, my heart goes right out to you as does that of my daughter, we are rooting for you.
I feel Ben will soon be back with you and I shall be posting Ben's photo and details on my online web site in the hope that it will help you to find Ben.
I think there should be a lot more help provided to help find missing children. Its like missing children get an initial burst of publicity and then the story is then lost in the flood of new news items, this must be very frustrating for those who have lost their children and need the ongoing publicity to find them.
Why can't newspapers and TV stations regularly feature missing children and host special and frequent missing children programmes and drives to help find missing children like Ben?
Kerry if you are reading this we must try and connect I would like to help you find Ben.
Sincerest regards
Amber
