BOY, 15, HELD OVER RHYS MURDER
A youth is being held over murder of Rhys Jones
A 15-year-old boy was in custody over the shooting of 11-year-old Rhys Jones, as the detective heading the inquiry made a personal plea for one crucial witness to come forward.
Rhys was gunned down a week ago by a youth on a BMX bike in the car park of a pub in Croxteth, Liverpool, close to where the Everton fan had been playing football with his friends.
Merseyside police said the 15-year-old, who is from the local area, was detained on Wednesday morning on suspicion of murder.
Ten other youths have already been detained on suspicion of murder over the past week, with six bailed and four released without charge.
Detective Superintendent Dave Kelly, the senior investigating officer in the hunt for Rhys's killer, later made a plea for one anonymous witness to come forward.
Mr Kelly said the man, who had called police on one previous occasion, had provided significant information which could potentially solve the case.
He made a personal pledge to the man that he would protect his identity if he came forward again.
Mr Kelly said: "One man in particular had provided information. I want to thank him, he's been very brave. We want him to make contact with us again. He can speak to me direct, I will look after him."
Speaking at the scene of the shooting outside the Fir Tree pub in Croxteth, Mr Kelly said he had seen the effect of the murder on Rhys's family and described it as devastating.
Then he spoke directly to the killer, saying: "What you have done is wrong and we need to deal with you. Please, please come forward, it is only a matter of time before we deal with you."

Hopefully this arrest will either be the Guilty party or lead the police to him.
Our hearts go out to the family!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

FIGHT FOR JUSTICE

This awful tragedy should never have been allowed to happen. but where there is a gun happy culture there will always be a disaster waiting to happen, sadly the murder of Rhys was a casualty of a culture that is out of control, this poor little guy and his decent upstanding family victims of a sociological mess, the legacy of bad politics and appallingly bad parenting and total lack of respect.
I would like to ask the parents of this gun happy delinquent murderer : "How would you like it if this was YOUR son who had been murdered"? and "Have you NO respect for society, for humanity and all that is decent"? and "Have you no respect for anyone to let your children do this to innocent decent upstanding families"?
They should put the parents of this monster into jail along with the monster they have created and throw away the key forever, letting them rot as they so richly deserve.
As for poor Rhys and his family, well my heart goes out to them, they didn't deserve this at all.
I am a single parent to a 17 year old daughter, we fled from both Liverpool and Chorley after suffering the appalling gang, YOB and ASBO culture both from kids and their equally delinquent parents who drove us out by making our lives a living hell on earth.
We now live in a rural countryside area where there is far more respect and it is safer and we get a decent nights sleep for a change.
I would support the family of Rhys to move away from Liverpool, and come to an area like ours, they are too decent to stay in an area where they are at risk of this sort of violence.
Does anyone know how I can start a fund raising drive to help finance the move away from Liverpool for the family of Rhys? I think we should all see how we can help to get them away to a nice safe home so that they can be in peace, if we have done this for the Mc Cann's we can do it for a very deserving family like the Jone's.
I have just phoned the Liverpool Echo newspaper to ask the same question and they weren't much help, they knew of no such initiative, or how to start one and said they would ring me if they heard of one starting. But that wont help start it, will it?
Can anyone help to start a fund for these lovely people to be fully supported?
We want to help them all we possibly can. Anyone else of the same mind?

we do have an efficient police force, but they are like a boxer with both hands tied behind his back trying to win a bout. this government has effectively made them into an inoperable deterrant by introducing " human rights", (for the benefit of the criminal of course) and mountains of paperwork for every event, no matter how trivial. what's wrong with being stopped and searched if you are totally innocent? if it helps to save an innocent life what is the problem?

WHAT A TRAGEDY
29.08.07, 2:04pm
Are we really safe in this country? Two women are killed every week and one child every week.
Do we have the police that we deserve. If not, what have we done to deserve the police that we have? The girl who was raped and tortured and killed begged for help from the police in vain. Julie Harris begged the police for help but was told they had "other commitments".
Poor Rhys will nto be the last, unfortunately with the police we have
