UK NEWS3 BIKERS HELD IN HELL’S ANGEL KILLING
Thursday August 23,2007 By Martin Stote.THREE bikers were arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday in pre-dawn raids by armed police hunting the killers of Hell’s Angel Gerry Tobin.
Detectives had agreed during the 10-day inquiry that enmity between rival gangs might lie behind the shooting and warned against the temptation to take reprisals. The arrests follow a police operation involving two forces, who also seized a gun, knives, an axe, a Mitsubishi 4x4 and a green Rover saloon parked in a lock-up garage. Detectives said later they had seized another Rover car which had been damaged by fire before yesterday’s raids. Tobin, 35, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorbike at 70mph on the M40 in Warwickshire a week last Sunday when he was shot in the neck.
Detectives said they were seeking up to three men in a green Rover which waited for him in a lay-by and then tailed him for five miles. Tobin, a born-again Christian who moved back to the UK from Canada 10 years ago, had been to the Bulldog Bash, a bikers’ festival in Warwickshire. The three suspects were arrested during swoops around 4am on three houses in Coventry, West Midlands, and Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Detectives were last night questioning them about the murder of Tobin, a divorcee who lived in south-east London with his girlfriend, Rebecca Smith, 35. A man was arrested at a Harley-Davidson garage in Coventry where he worked.
At the second Coventry address a burly man was led away in handcuffs by police marksmen. A neighbour said: “I was awakened by noises and saw police officers and the red dots from the laser beams of their guns.” At the third address, in Nuneaton, police arrested a father of three who worked as a mechanic. Neighbours said he had a motorbike parked at the back. One neighbour said: “The whole family were taken away. The three kids were all crying their eyes out.”
