Giro organisers are looking further afield to washington

WASHINGTON could one day host the opening stage of the Giro d’Italia.

The three-week race, traditionally held all over Italy, begins in Amsterdam next May and organisers are looking even further afield for future starts.

“We’ve had in mind the idea of starting the Giro in America. Now, there’s interest from Washington,” said race director Angelo Zomegnan, with New York and Philadelphia also possible venues.
