Tyson laid flowers ate Owen's shrine

Thursday November 5,2009

By Daily Express Reporter

MIKE TYSON yesterday visited the shrine of a tragic British boxing hero who was killed in the ring.

Tyson laid flowers at the bronze statue of Johnny Owen in his home town of Merthyr Tydfil.

Bantamweight Owen, who was 24, died 29 years ago to the day. He was knocked out by Mexican Lupe Pintor in Los Angeles in a world title fight and died seven weeks later, never regaining consciousness.

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson, 43, said: “ I remember seeing that fight when I was only 14. It was one of the great fights and it was really important to me to come here and lay flowers.”
