JUNE WHITFIELD TO STAR IN REMAKE OF THERE'S NO ONE QUITE LIKE GRANDMA

Tuesday November 3 2009 byNicola McCafferty for Express.co.uk

VETERAN actress June Whitfield will appear in the remake of the 1980's chart-topper There's No One Quite Like Grandma.

The Absolutely Fabulous star today donned a black leather jacket and teamed up with a bearded biker on a motorcycle for her cameo appearance in the new version of the much-loved festive number one.

Members of the St Winifred’s School Choir, who first sang the song as youngsters, have been reunited to record the track - 30 years after it knocked John Lennon off the Christmas number one spot in 1980.

June, 84, said of her appearance: “I have played a whole variety of parts in my career, but this was something I really enjoyed - and it is one up for Granny-power.”

The song will be re-released later this month as the Innocent Big Knit charity single.

The Big Knit initiative also sees members of the public hand-knitting woollen hats for products made by food and drink company Innocent sold in Sainsbury’s, which along with the single will raise money for charity.

The cash will go towards this year’s target of raising more than £250,000 for Age Concern and Help the Aged.
