MUD PIE: Avinash Tripathi wallows in slime / Europics

Tuesday November 3,2009

By Brendan Abbott for express.co.uk

HE MAY look grubby, but 'miracle worker' Avinash Tripathi says he can cure the sick - by persuading them to wallow in slime with him.

The Indian holy man claims that immersing himself in the mud on the riverbanks in Varanasi gives him the power to heal others by connecting them to nature.

Hindu hermit Tripathi, 31, gave up a family, his home and a job as a teacher to live in the polluted mud banks of the River Ganges, as reported by the Austrian Times.

He said: "Only by reconnecting with the rawness of nature can man find true healing.

"Any ills can be cured when people let the earth flow through them."
