WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE SECRET RECIPE FOUND IN SKIP

Now it is to go on display at the Worcester City Museum.

The man who found it beside the factory of makers Lea and Perrins was the firm’s accountant, Brian Keogh, who died aged 80 three years ago.

The encoded handwritten notes in two leather-bound folios were kept by his daughter Bonnie Clifford, 57, from Worcester, and were among documents and memorabilia her father collected over the years.

The museum is conducting a handwriting analysis to verify that the recipe is authentic. But it only lists the secret ingredients, not how they were mixed.

Bonnie said: “We’re still protecting the secret of the recipe. We’re not releasing all of it. It’s interesting to see how the recipe has developed over the years but it hasn’t changed that much.”

Museum collections officer David Nash said: “Not even the staff knew the whole recipe, only parts of it.”
