IS BRITAIN ON THE BRINK OF A SECOND WINTER OF DISCONTENT?

Story Image

Do you think Royal Mail should be striking?

Monday October 26,2009

BRITAIN is on the brink of a second "winter of discontent" with other militant unions set to join postal workers in ravaging public services.

The Royal Mail dispute has already cost the UK economy close to £1billion but, as talks continue to try and avert another three-day walkout this week, there was little hope of a breakthrough.

Meanwhile, a raft of other unions today threatened winter strike action in a grim echo of the late 1970s.

British Airways confirmed 14,000 cabin crew will be balloted on industrial action – which could throw Christmas and New Year travel into chaos -  in a row over new contracts.

The RMT union is also threatening strikes against Network Rail amid fears its entire maintenance workforce could be sacked in massive budget cuts.

And thousands of drivers with FirstGroup, the bus and rail company, are planning to strike today following a pay freeze, while refuse workers in Leeds are to continue industrial action for the eighth week.

The damaging industrial disputes recall the infamous winter of discontent in 1978-1979, which contributed to the electoral defeat of James Callaghan, Labour's then prime minister.

ARE MILITANT UNIONS CRIPPLING BRITAIN'S PUBLIC SERVICES?

IS IT FAIR THE PUBLIC ARE PUNISHED BY STRIKE ACTION?

DO YOU AGREE WITH THE RAFT OF UNIONS THREATENING INDUSTRIAL ACTION?

HIP_HOPPER - YOU CLAIM IMMIGRATION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EXPLODING CRIME RATES, SO TEL US ALL, WHY DID LABOUR FALSIFY THIS REPORT AND GHIDE IT FOR 12 YEARS ?

28.10.09, 9:27am

"LABOUR’S attempts to hide the truth about mass immigration were dramatically exposed yesterday when it emerged warnings of rising crime as a result of its policy were airbrushed from an official report.

The dramatic disclosure fuelled anger at how Labour has tried to hoodwink voters over policies which have allowed hundreds of thousands of people into the country since 1997.

it emerged a 2001 Government report on the “social and economic” impact of migration had been censored."

**************** D E **************

Well, well, well, Labour deliberately LIED to deceive the public.

What a shock !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lies, deceipt, spin and deception - thats all this disgusting and despicable bunch od thieving lying bast*rds have ever done.

Now hip_hopper - YOU claim immigration has nothing to do with exploding crime rates, so tel us all, why did Labour falsify this report and ghide it for 12 years ?

BETWEEN 2001 AND 2008, ALMOST 200 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF TERROR-RELATED OFFENCES.

.

THING IS H_ERRP ,ONE CANNOT TRUST THE GOVT TO PROPERLY VET/KNOW WHO IS COMING IN? AND ITS RATHER LATE IN THE DECADE TO START COUNTING NOW.

NOW stop me if i,m wrong ,but in 1997 was GUN CRIME as bad as it is today?

AND NIETHER WAS TERROISM IN BRITAIN.

Mass Third World immigration which has created a large pool from which radicals canrecruit.

There will not be an end to terrorism in Britain until the immigration issue is resolved, and Britain stops interfering in the Middle East. Anything short of that double-pronged approach is guaranteed to fail, and the billions now being demanded from the taxpayers’ pocket will be yet more money utterly wasted.

in FACT we are paying for TERROISM.

----------------------------------

Every year 425,000 more people will be living in the UK, the equivalent of a city the size of Bristol.

The surge in immigration will mean that in less than 25 years the UK's population will increase by 10 million to more than 71 million in 2033 - the fastest rise since the post-war baby boom.

The major increase in immigration to Britain has taken place since 1997. It is not a result of world trends but is largely the result of a series of policy errors and the deliberate promotion of economic migration.

.The fact is that our immigration system has been collapsing for ten years at least.

lax border control contributed to the complete loss of control of asylum, with the Government eventually having to admit it had lost nearly half a million asylum case files after they were discovered in 2006 lying unattended in a warehouse.

NOT JUST A WINTER BUT A NEW ICA AGE...

28.10.09, 1:31am

I fear we may be headed for an all out general strike as dissatisfaction and disillusionment continue to colour the relationship between unions and government.
It would not surprise me to see a " domino effect" as more and more unions rally to the cause.
This is more a backlash against Brown and his puppet master Mandelson than breakdown between management and workers.
A new ice age is in the offing but only when Brown and his mottley mismanaging crw are gone can a thaw set in..
