KARLSSON SUFFERS COLLARBONE INJURY

Peter Karlsson is undergoing emergency treatment

Tuesday September 22,2009

WOLVES skipper Peter Karlsson suffered a broken collarbone in the 56-40 play-off win over Lakeside at Monmore.

Karlsson collided with Hammers reserve Stuart Robson in a spectacular spill which naturally ruled him out of the rest of the meeting.

He is flying back to Sweden for urgent treatment in Gothenburg with a specialist who works with the national football team.

Parrys International Wolves boss Peter Adams said: "It's a big blow to us losing our captain marvel and we have to be pleased with a 16-point lead to take to Lakeside next Monday.

"But we'll need it, this tie isn't over yet, there is a long way to go. Anything can happen in the play-offs."

A massive crowd packed the Monmore terraces to witness a meeting full of excitement.

The visitors started well and threatened to keep the scores close but reserve Ty Proctor stepped up a gear and piled up the points for Adams and his men.

Karlsson crashed in Heat 11 and by then Wolves were firmly in control after a professional first leg performance.

Jonas Davidsson was the pick of the Hammers. He was surprisingly relegated to last in heat 10, but otherwise went through the card, including a fine six pointer in heat 7, where he exchanged several passes with the dogged Proctor.

With race wins split 8-7, it was strength in depth that saw Wolves home.

Freddie Lindgren only missed out on a paid maximum when defeated by Davidsson in heat 15, while the Hammers may rue the contributions of Kylamkorpi and Niemenen, who have performed well at Monmore in the past.
