DELIGHTED: Michael Owen has completed his shock move to Manchester United

Saturday July 4,2009

By Richard Tanner

MICHAEL OWEN promised to repay Sir Alex Ferguson’s faith with goals galore after completing a shock move to Manchester United.

Free agent Owen said he did not give Ferguson’s surprise invitation to resurrect his career by joining United a moment’s thought.

After signing a two-year contract, understood to be worth £50,000 a week, half what he was on at Newcastle,
Owen, 29, said: “I had just begun to talk to other clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex called.

“He invited me to have breakfast with him next morning during which he told me he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment’s thought.

“I know there are a few people saying he should not have signed me, but I’m confi dent that will disappear in time.
“As soon as the first game kicks off I can do my talking on the pitch.

“I am confident with the players I’ll have around me that I’ll score goals.”

WELL DONE SIR ALEX

05.07.09, 2:30pm

Micheal Owen and Wayne Rooney will know score more goals then most ot fhe one two punch around the Premier League .

That because they both can play off each other more then Ronaldo the cry baby who left for Real Madrid where he will find it hard to get first team place all the time that they have signed so many stars that he will spend more time worming the bench then on the field of play if he doesn't score goals like he did at man u.

Owen will know show the rest of the league that he isn't washed up that he and rooney will put united back on top for good.

Sir Alex you have know scured your place in football fork law by signing the one element missing since George Best a fast thinking goal getter and a playmaker to.

even though I am a Liverpool fan i think that England will have one of the most leathal 1-2 punch on there side as of August 2009.

A STEP TOO FAR

05.07.09, 4:57am

I must admit Ferguson,s old brigade keeps winning, how I dont know, the past few seasons he has had his share of old and ordinary players, many who he couldnt sell on,he must get it right somehow, perhaps its the sprinkle of the best in the world,I like many supporters have been a fan of Micheal Owen over the years but form over the past 3 or so years has been very poor.Going to Man Utd is a step too far.For the first time in many years I feel Utd will finish outside the top 4 or 6,Ferggie has lost Ronaldo,Trevez and has destroyed a goal machine in Rooney,Micheal Owen will be the icing on Alex,s retirement cake.
