TINA'S TELL-ALL TALE OF DIANA DRAWS MIXED RECEPTION

Wednesday June 20,2007

Top invitee Tony Blair stayed away but an impressive array of guests from the political, media, showbusiness and literary worlds fetched up to quaff champagne at London’s Serpentine Gallery to launch Tina Brown’s much-criticised biography of Princess Diana, The Diana Chronicles.

While former Vanity Fair editor Tina, 53, pictured, accompanied by diminutive husband Sir Harold Evans, laughed off remarks by some about how much she resembled Diana, veteran Leftie Tony Benn – protesting “It’s not really my kind of party” – crossed paths with Shadow Chancellor George Osborne and his fellow Tory MP Boris Johnson.

The Queen Mother’s dapper former servant “Backstairs” Billy Tallon said indignantly that he would “never write a book about my time in royal life”, while Elizabeth Emanuel, who co-designed Diana’s wedding dress, enthused about creating gowns for her latest muse, Nancy Dell’Olio.

Meanwhile, lyricist Sir Tim Rice confided that he wasn’t going to emulate his former musical partner Andrew Lloyd Webber and be a reality TV talent judge.

“No, I can’t be bothered. I’ve got better things to do on a Saturday night,” he said of Any Dream Will Do, which chose a new leading man for his and Andrew’s show Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

“I didn’t see many of the programmes as I was abroad but the chap they chose to play Joseph is good.

“But if shows like this get people to the theatre, who haven’t seen the theatre before then it's a good thing."

Other guests included Brown's old flame Martin Amis, Melvyn Bragg, Jane Asher and husband Gerald Scarfe and Prince Charles's former biographer Jonathan Dimbleby.

BROWN NEITHER LOOKS LIKE NOR WAS ACQUAINTED WITH DIANA!

20.06.07, 5:08pm

Tina Brown chose to rely upon negative research to write this piece of trash, information gleaned from Chuck and Camzilla's camp, and it shows. For Heaven's sake, Diana only met the woman ONCE when she accompanied Anna Wintour to lunch, and took an instant dislike to her--now we know why, as Diana was very sharp when it came to reading leeches.

As to the notion that Brown resembles Diana--in her dreams! She looks more like a cross between Streisand and Camilla (Tina--that is NOT a compliment!). Apparently, the old addage 'beauty is as beauty does' holds true, for her inner self is reflected in her bow-wow face!

IN HER DREAMS

20.06.07, 1:51pm

Why do people flatter themselves thinking they look like Princess Diana just because they have short blonde hair? Anyone telling Tina Brown this is an absolute kiss @rse. I think it's absolutely appalling and disgusting that so called journalists and the like are still making money by publishing their opinion about Diana, and since she's not here to defend herself it's even more despicable. The timing of Tina Brown's book at the 10th anniversary of Diana's death just emphasizes how callous she is.
