A DESIGNER OF CLASSIC AND MEAN MACHINES

Story Image

Kenny's book paints the picture of the determined man perfectly

Saturday October 31,2009

By Nat Barnes

THE name of Charles Amherst Villiers may not be immediately familiar but his work in the automotive world certainly is.

Responsible for the classic “Blower” Bentley in the Twenties (James Bond’s original car), he also designed Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking Bluebird, did the design drawings for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and many other projects besides. Paul Kenny’s new book on Villiers presents a great portrait of a clearly determined man.

To order The Man Who Supercharged Bond by Paul Kenny (Haynes, £25), phone the Express Bookshop on 0871 521 1301 (calls cost 10p per minute from BT landlines). Alternatively, send a cheque or PO made payable to Express Newspapers to Express Bookshop, PO Box 200, Falmouth, TR11 4WJ or order online via our website, www.expressbookshop.com
