A GARDEN VARIETY APOLOGY

Janet has since received her flowers

Monday September 21,2009

JANET TATTERSALL'S hopes of seeing a glorious display of blooming clematis in her garden next summer looked decidedly iffy when the four climbing plants she ordered never turned up.

The 75-year-old from Glan Conwy, in Clwyd, Wales, paid £57.50 by credit card to Caddicks Nursery in Warrington, Cheshire, in June. “But despite many phone calls and promises they would be delivered, we are still waiting,” said Janet and confided to Crusader: “I’m disabled and ordered the clematis for my husband John as a thank-you present as he does a wonderful job as my carer. This is so disappointing.”

Caddicks’ boss John Clayton was appalled when Crusader alerted him to the lapse. He promised to rectify the oversight immediately and send an extra plant as an apology.

Last week a delighted Janet called to say her order had now come, as yet only four plants, but we fully expect Caddicks to keep its word and send a fifth soon.
