THE Daily Express newspaper has launched its Cost of Living Index to give a true picture of the devastating effect rising costs are having on our readers.

The Government tells us that annual inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index, is 2.5 per cent. But the reality is that prices of the most vital goods and services have been SOARING way beyond this level and show no sign of slowing.

Buy a copy of today's newspaper and you can read our analysis, in association with price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, on how FOOD, HOUSEHOLD BILLS, MORTGAGE REPAYMENTS and TAXES are relentlessly spiralling.

For the coming weeks The Daily Express and Express.co.uk will help readers pinpoint where costs are RISING and money can be saved.

And of course we will continue CRUSADING for this Government to recognise the true impact of inflation and to help those who are hardest hit.

Here on Express.co.uk we want to hear from YOU directly.

* Have you been affected by the hike in prices?

* Are you struggling to make ends meet?

* Are you worried about you and your family?

* Do you blame the Government?

COST OF LIVING ? OUR LIVES ARE BEING TORN APART BY IT

14.05.08, 10:57am

We are told that the cost of living index is very low but the disappearing cash in our pockets tells a different story. If we carry on as we are we will soon be faced with the possibility of having to print more cash because current currency notes will have lost to much value.

The tax concessions being made by government and the price cuts that private enterprise are making will help and hopefully get everyone working together which is what we must do to combat the threat from the far east .

FOOTNOTE:

Labour are trying to hide the truth about the latest elections from their supporters. They seem to think that if they don't admit things are wrong no one will notice. ( this i what is actually happening where I live)

BANK OF ENGLAND AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM

11.05.08, 8:15pm

Having done little if anything in recent years to control the real rate of inflation the Bank of England is now beset by the scourge of stagflation - a deadly combination of lacklustre economic growth and high inflation which scares the pants off all economists. But have no fear - Mervyn "Indiana Jones" King is about to ride over the hill to our rescue. Gawd help us!

ONS STAFF - COMPLICITY IN CHICANERY

08.05.08, 7:46am

As part of its' excellent inflation index campaign perhaps the Express would ask Mark Serwotka head of the main Civil Service union whether he represents staff at ONS. And if he does, whether those staff are content to accept a pay settlement based upon the (artificially low)version of the rate of inflation which they themselves compile and which, in correspondence to me, they have defended as accurate. I am sure that we would all find the answers to those questions very interesting.

IT'S ALL BROWN'S FAULT

05.05.08, 6:50pm

If Brown truely believes that the rate of inflation in the UK is the official "2.5%" then the man is a deluded fool living in cloud cookoo land.

He was the worst chancellor we ever had, starting with flogging our gold reserves at a huge loss - twice - and it was steadily downhill since. Gordo - stealth tax and spend - Brown, now go as the worst PM we've ever suffered.
