RHYS JONES
24.08.07, 6:36pm
My heart aches for the parents and brother of this poor little boy. My sincere sympathies to relatives and friends of Rhys.
I am afraid the softly, softly approach to these youngsters when they are just starting to offend only ensures that they think they can get away with anything. They are told repeatedly that they have rights but no-one adds on that with rights come responsibilities.
What I cannot understand is where these guns come from. Since they were banned ? we seem to have had more crime involving small fire-arms than we ever did before.
What the government should be doing is stopping these weapons from entering the country, Oh, but I forgot, they cannot stop humans from entering illegally, so what hope is there of that happenning.
Well Mr Brown and cohorts, you better get your finger out and do something, not just new laws, because they will only fall flat .As they will be challenged by some legal eagle with nothing better to do than look for loopholes.
We always say that some-one might help the police to stop this but a lot of folk are too apathetic and shrug their shoulders. WELL SHAME ON YOU, REMEMBER YOU COULD BE NEXT ! ! !

This family look so decent and caring, what a shame they've lost their son in this way. Why on earth don't these thugs shoot each other, not innocent children? Whoever is hiding this nasty thug should be shot too, and as the boy's mother said 'Somebody knows who killed my son'. Good luck.

GOVERNMENT'S EMPTY PLATITUDES DON'T CUT IT!
24.08.07, 1:08pm
Many more of our children will be murdered by handguns and other heinous means before this perverse and immoral government does anything. Gratuitous platitudes are the New Bolsheviks answer to everything that ails this nation; moreover, it seems many gobble up their unceasing, leftist twaddle.
This government does not give a damn about the law-abiding citizenry; only the so-called social fringe, the alleged minorities, when, in fact, it is we, the aforementioned, whom are the true minority.
Their solution, if one may call it that, will be to blame the “haves” (who have less and less at every turn) for the ills of the “have nots” (who have more and more at every turn; thanks to the so-called “haves”). Hence, our pay packets will shrink even more-so; for pouring the so-called “haves” money into the proverbial blackhole is the New Bolsheviks solution to all that ails this once great nation.
This fetid welfare state has rotted out; accountability will be held over the heads of those whom contribute to our society and pay taxes. Taxes, which maintain the already rancid and decomposing status quo – it pays to be idle, criminal and self-entitled.
Our loathsome government does not give a damn about Rhys Jones and other children who have fallen victim to so-called gun-culture. Their solution, as always, will be some politically-correct gibberish, which, in the end, will be meaningless drivel and accomplish naught.
My prayers go out to the Jones Family and others whose children have been murdered.

24.08.07, 10:34am
My sincere condolences to Mr & Mrs Jones on the lost of their son.
I feel so sad for you both.
How many more of our young will die so senselessly before something is done to stop the gun culture breeding in our society?
May Rhys Rest In Peace with the angels. x

IMMIGRANTS
23.08.07, 11:21pm
First I would like to express my sympathy to the parents, relatives and friends of Rhys Jones.
I agree someone must know and I also agree that many if not most of the guns coming into this country illegally are from Eastern Europe but that does not mean an immigrant pulled the trigger. Most of the rest of the world including the ex-eastern bloc has a culture based on family values, it is much more likely the murderer/s is/are home grown.

YOUNG BOY MURDERED THROUGH GOVERNMENT FAILURE!
23.08.07, 11:13pm
Its clear that this young boy came from a stable, loving, two parent family background, something New Labour seem obsessed with destroying.
I will say a prayer tonight for their son and their terrible plight.
This lad was not murdered because of additional violence in Liverpool now, the city like many other deprived areas, especially up North, has always had it's problems. I should know, I was born in Liverpool and brought up in Kirkby.
But I feel this knife and gun culture has evolved through neglect, by this pathetic government, to anything to do with promoting steady family upbringing.
Single parents now get wrapped in cotton wool by the state, hence the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe. Their children grow up without a stable background mainly a father figure. The human rights politically correct morons, stop these young people learning right from wrong but simply preach their human rights, even if they turn into criminals.
What chance have decent people like this mother and her family got to protect their children and bring them up safely, to become good citizens when we have a government that have totally lost the plot?
They put more priority into arresting people for smoking in a pub, or fining people for putting their rubbish out on the wrong day! What chance have we got to sort out the serious social problems within our Country when we have a bunch of imbeciles like this in charge?
I blame this young mans death, on this government and their inability to run this Country in a decent manner!

IMMIGRANTS

I don't think that the gun problem lies entirely with this however, a lot of guns do come in from Eastern Europe.
We are too soft in this country now. Who runs the country nowadays, the elected government or the appointed judges?

WELL SAID ENDRE AND MASTERBREW
23.08.07, 10:37pm
Intelligent postings, both of you.
Too many people on here just want to slag off immigrants. All the time. It's so predictable and mindless. Try looking closer to home.
The kids who heckle me as I walk home from work every night aren't immigrants. Neither are the yobs on the bus, or the ones drinking on the train. They're British, born and bred, to lazy, parents - often white - who sit around all day watching TV and drinking...not because "all the jobs have been taken by immigrants", but because they can't be arsed to get off their fat backsides and do a hard day's work.
What caused this young boy's death? If you want my opinion, it's just two things - a weak criminal justice system and an out-of-control benefits culture.
That's what's ruining society. That's what's led to the breakdown of respect. That's what's causing innocent people to die.

ROOTS OF CRIME
23.08.07, 8:48pm
A sensible posting, Endre, and much that I would agree with. Too many are ready to blame the ills of this country on immigrants yet ignore the appalling behaviour of youngsters (and not so youngsters) that seem to believe that being white and British gives some sort of entitlement to behave in a totally unacceptable manner, especially abroad.
I definitely feel that the breakdown in families is a factor - whilst my political views are generally left of centre, I believe that this is one area where the left is totally wrong.
I would also point a finger at the media. Papers, on the right particularly, love stories of how everything is dreadful, as that appeals to the preformed opinions of their readers. Therefore, for example, one dodgy Scoutmaster will create more column inches than all the good works of the rest put together. Headlines about drunken and yobbish behaviour encourage copy-cat behaviour, as those who behave get no thanks or praise. Teenagers work hard to pass exams, only to be told by rent-a-mouth MPs and commentators that they only passed because the exams are too easy. Two sixteen years olds who volunteered as special constables were rubbished as being too young whilst another young volunteer was picked out for comment for being (gasp) both female and Muslim!
The reality is that many youngsters take part in voluntary and community work, sports and youth organisations but will be ignored in favour of the lawless - can you blame young people for feeling disillusioned and worthless when those who make a contribution are invisible?

ROOTS OF CRIME
23.08.07, 8:08pm
It's too easy and over simplistic to just cry hang 'em high. Punishment is just a knee jerk reaction and won't solve anything especially in the long run. The root causes of this terrible and sad crime should be the focus of our attention.
Britain is a country with more than its fair share of yobs, drugs and violent crime - by any European comparison. As an English person living in Budapest I can make valid comparisons and even though this is a biggish city jobs, hooligans violent crime and generally vulgar uncouth people with which sadly the UK is swarming with are very much the exception here. Whenever I hear and see drunks shouting, swearing and generally being infantile on the streets they turn out to be British.tourists ...it's embarrassing. Of course there are lots of reasons for the state of Britain but from what I can see one of the main ones is that people here - as oppose to over there - actually have to work for a living. While we pay 40% tax (you have it easy in the UK! Taxes are NOT high!) there are hardly any benefits: virtually no unemployment benefits, NO housing benefits and more to the point no meal tickets for life for single mothers who get pregnant when they are 16. Subsequently teenage girls with no visible father around SIMPLY DO NOT get pregnant here like in the UK where children are giving birth to children and the family is breaking down. Children brought up by loving parents or a parent (i.e. one that's already an adult) do not join gangs or become criminals. The family is the base of society and encouraging teenage mothers is breaking down the fundamentals of our society...unfortunately Liverpool is a microcosm for the fate waiting the rest of the country. I lived there 25 years ago and its a generalization but the old and middle aged people were the salt of the earth and the kindest people you could meet..unfortunately the same couldn't be said of the younger people, even then. Something is going wrong with society and that's why this poor boy lost his life so senselessly.

I LONG FOR DAY WHEN THE DECENT PEOPLE OF BRITAIN TURN ON THIS MARXIST GOVERNMENT
23.08.07, 7:06pm
Blair/Brown along with the rest of their evil Marxist henchmen should be made to answer and pay dearly for the damage they have caused to this country .They are nothing less than traitors . I was once a reasonable caring compassionate person . The despicable behaviour of this government over recent years has turned me into a person who would be more than happy to put a rope round their necks and watch them choke.

My thoughts are with the famliy of this little lad all he was doing was playing football like I used to as a lad myself. When there is a non police presence and our laws protect scum like this, what happens? innocent men ,women and our children suffer at the hands of these untouchables.Tough on crime and the causes of crime!! this useless dangerous labour goverment yet again let us down. Now we are taxed to much and there is a good chance we can be murdered in our own streets by the scum they have encouraged to fester in our country.Get rid of these dangerous leftwing liberal idiots that are endangering not our way of life but our lives itself.God bless you Rhys keep scoring goals son
