How long is a piece of string doctor?

Published: Thursday August 27,2009 by Tomas

For some reason the Express has run this story two days running under slightly different formats to which I commented and make no apology for repeating.

I have absolutely no faith in doctor/politicians crystal ball gazing. And, shame on this Labour politician/doctor for trying to make political gain from this situation.

My Father had prostrate cancer and was told by the doctors it was of the slow moving variety and it would be something else that would kill him. He was taken into hospital where I HAD TO TELL HIM he only had a year to live (the consultant chickened out and asked me to do it). The very next day I was asked to tell him again that the prognosis was now six months. Within a month he was in a Hospice and two weeks later he died. So much for exact diagnosis from doctors and anyone who has gone through it with relatives will know that doctors/consultants are always hesitant to give a timeline.
