"Apparentkly he managed to write a letter of congratulations to the cricket team for winning the ashes................but can't make a statement about a mass killer being released.?"

According to the Times today...

"Gordon Brown today broke his silence on the release of the Lockerbie bomber, saying that the UK government had done no deal with Libya and that he was "angry and repulsed" at the scenes of jubilation in Tripoli.

Mr Brown said that the UK government had played no part in al-Megrahi's release.

"My first thoughts have been with the families of the victims of Lockerbie bombing and I have to tell you I was both angry and repulsed by the reception that a convicted bomber guilty of a huge terrorist crime met on his return to Libya," said Mr Brown.

Mr Brown said that he had made it plain to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, when they met on the fringes of the G8 summit in July, that Westminster would not get involved in the Scottish government's deliberations on al-Megrahi's fate"
